A gardener is responsible for the care, maintenance, and improvement of outdoor spaces such as lawns, gardens, and landscapes within a company, institution, or residential property. The role focuses on ensuring that the environment is clean, healthy, attractive, and well-maintained.
i. Maintain lawns, flower beds, trees, and hedges
ii. Water plants and manage irrigation systems
iii. Plant, prune, and replace vegetation as required
iv. Control weeds, pests, and plant diseases
v. Apply fertilizers and manure to support plant growth
vi. Keep the compound clean (sweeping, waste collection, disposal)
vii. Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment
viii. Monitor plant health and report any issues
ix. Follow health, safety, and environmental guidelines
x. Support landscaping and beautification projects
i. KCSE certificate; horticulture training is an added advantage between the age of 25–35 years’
ii. Ability to maintain lawns, flowers, trees, and hedges
iii. Skilled in use of gardening tools and equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, slashers)
iv. Knowledge of plant care, soil management, and pest control
v. Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
vi. Basic understanding of irrigation and water management
vii. Knowledge of health and safety practices (use of protective gear, safe chemical handling)
viii. Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
ix. Reliable, disciplined, and able to work independently or in a team
x. Valid National ID; Certificate of Good Conduct is an added advantage
